SRI AMAN: The construction of the Batang Lupar bridge is expected to change the development and socio-economic landscape of the coastal areas of Lingga to Sebuyau.

According to Lingga assemblywoman Simoi Peri, the construction of the RM1 billion bridge will link Kampung Triso to Sebuyau.

Construction works on the bridge is expected to start next year.

Speaking during an event held at the Sri Aman civic centre on Sunday, Simoi said the bridge would also bring a lot of benefits to the people of Maludam and Beladin.

“With the bridge, people from all these areas will find it easier to travel to Kuching. Before this they either have to travel to Betong first which makes the duration of the journey longer,” she added.

She expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and former Chief Minister, the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem who came up with the idea for the bridge.

Also present during the event were Sri Aman District officer Ismawie Salleh and local community leaders.
